New Orleans: Urban Farming and Food Security
In New Orleans, access to nutritious food for many residents was a problem even before Hurricane Katrina and since then the number of supermarkets has decreased by half. In many neighborhoods it is easier to find fast food than it is to find fresh fruits or vegetables. In a city with a rich agricultural history, there is now a strong movement towards urban farming as a source of growing fresh produce for local consumption.
